Using the general bezel removing tool is over egging the job on these models and the use of a good firm sharp case knife is all that is required . It removes any metal damage risk which you can get from the hard blades in the bezel tool and provides more closer accuracy with a . Problem is, the enamel on the bezel of this watch has been pretty worn down, whomever previously owned this piece really used it. Now, I'm most likely going to be releasing this watch at some point down the road. My question is, would re-enameling the bezel harm or increase its value? I am aware that the bezel on an Explorer II can be replaced; however I had a few questions. * Will having a replacement bezel put on the watch decrease its value? * Would it be better to have an expert attempt to restore the bezel, or leave the watch as is? Anyone that has an Explorer II with fading numbers on the bezel that's on the fence about a DIY repaint go for it. I have a 9 million serial number 16550 that's in otherwise excellent condition with the exception of the disappearing bezel numbers.
